Coat Hook Station-DIY

Hey guys, I wanted to come in and share a project from a couple of years ago.....

Coat Hook Station

Today I am sharing an older DIY that we did to keep all the backpacks and coats in easy access for the school year. This was wasted space that I wanted to make useful since we really did not want to use our normal coat closet for the kids as they were shorter and had issues reaching their coats...LOL
I searched and searched for ideas, of course Pinterest was a good source for all kinds of things.  I got some ideas and came up with one that would work in our little space behind the front door. As you will see we have since changed out our front door and painted this wall pure white. I will be hanging our GATHER sign and adding some colorful wall baskets so watch for that on my Instagram feed.

OK lets start.......

Here is just the plain wall behind the front door, kind of wasted space right? I was not sure once we painted the walls this beige color what I was going to do there. It is kind of a little nook for the front door to open into.

We got 2 sheets of Bead-board and pinned them to the wall as well as adding some liquid nails. I did not like the break between the 2 piece of bead-board so we added the extra strip of wood from the top shelf down to the floor trim.

Here it is all primed and ready for paint.....

As you can see in the left bottom side of the picture we still had the small pony wall that stuck out into the room as a little separation from the entry way into the living room. Since this was done we have taken that out and removed the hardwood near the front door, we added low pile carpet squares for all the dirt and mud that comes into the house with the kids.

Painted the coat hook space with pure white paint and then added the hooks......

I was kind of random with the hooks, making it a little different then just lining them up in a straight line.

At the time we did this we only had the 2 boys with us and wanted to make this a space they could put their backpacks and coats for school. Since then it has become useful for all of us, not just for the kids any longer since we do not have a coat closet any longer. Now the closet is used for all our craft supplies, both for the kids and for myself but that could be another whole post within itself.... :-)

Here is what it looks like today........

Ok, now this is what it looks on a daily bases.......LOL

So since we just painted the walls white I will be hanging the GATHER sign and adding some colorful baskets to the wall above all the coats like I mentioned earlier in the post.

Well I hope you enjoyed this little DIY on turning a blank space into something useful. It was one of the best additions we made to our home.

What are some additions you have added to your home that really had a big difference in your living space? I would love to hear your story. :-)

Thank you for stopping by and have a great day.

Be Blessed,
Debra

  2. I love that you used random hooks and slightly random placement too; it adds a lot of interest. Pinned.
